Am I the Drama?

Note: this is a random post about clothes. I’ve been isolating in my bedroom with COVID for the past week, and while I am on the mend, I am also teetering on delusional at this point, so I just need to ramble.

Have you ever purposefully been the person wearing the same exact outfit as someone else at a party?

Neither have I.

I have, on the other hand, worn a very similar dress (okay, fine, same dress in a different length) as my cousin during a family photoshoot. To be fair, they had a very specific color requirement (one color, no options) and the first dress I got (loved the color, style, and fit) turned out to be entirely too short. Since shopping for plus sizes can still be a challenge (and that challenge was exacerbated by the color and style requirements of the day), I had to make a last-minute Amazon purchase work. And it just so happened to be the same dress my older (much thinner) cousin had on, except hers was short and mine was long.

Now, here’s where I might be the drama…

I just bought (on. purpose.) the same dress my cousin (same cousin as before) wore for her birthday less than two weeks ago.

Hear me out…

So, my cousin looked beautiful in a short, hot pink, one-shoulder dress on her birthday, and I took some gorgeous pictures of her against these colorful angel wings in Lake Nona. We had a great time celebrating her.

A few days later, I get on Torrid’s website with the intention of buying a gift card for a friend’s birthday. They were having a huge sale, so I was obligated to peruse their clearance section. If you know Torrid, you know their clothes can be overpriced for what you’re getting, so I love shopping their clearance sales.

Imagine my delight when I see a cute, short, red, one-shoulder dress on clearance for $7 (originally $45). I click on it, and the dress is actually hot pink. I think to myself, I’ve seen this dress before, and then it hits me. I pull up my cousin’s birthday pictures, and the dress is nearly identical. The one on Torrid has a different style to the single shoulder, and none of the rouching my cousin’s dress had, but it’s essentially the same dress.

Mind you, there is a black one. However, the black one is $13, and how many black dresses can a plus size woman have? I mean, it definitely looked nice in black, but I wanted the $7 dress! So much of my closet is dark, and I wanted some color.

I stared at the dress for a few minutes, contemplating how much of a villain I wanted to become, then continued looking through other clearance items. I found a white, one-shoulder top on sale for $9 that I immediately knew I wanted to wear for my birthday candle-making outing in a couple weeks, so I put it in my cart and returned to stare at the dress a little more.

I mean, my cousin had already worn the dress for her birthday. How likely are we to wear the same dress to the same event (again)? I definitely won’t wear it to my birthday dinner (can you imagine? lol). It could be like a date night dress (when someone eventually asks me on a date). I could wear it to church with a blazer. It’s $7!

I bought it.

Now, I haven’t yet gotten my package, so I don’t know what the dress actually looks like on me (I don’t usually wear one-shoulder styles). But I’ve decided I’m fine with being the drama this time.
